In early April 2013 I posted on this blog a critique of a speech by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. He delivered it at an India Today Conclave. In June I posted a critique of the speech that was made in introduction by Javed Akhtar. Akhtar’s brief was dispassionately to set the scene for Vasudev’s speech, and he did so; but it felt to me at the time as if he was suppressing strong views that he would have liked to liberate.
So I was excited to find that Tehelka had brought the two of them together in conversation with Shoma Chaudhury at one of their Think sessions in 2012.
As Chaudhury introduces the session you hear the tribal applause and cheers as each name is mentioned. Is this really going to be a verbal gladiatorial contest? If so it will be a treat.
I quickly doff my rhetor hat and just enjoy. I invite you to do the same.
The debate was conducted brilliantly. It was extraordinary take on spirituality. It is unreasonable to be always reasonable. One will admire Javed sir for stretching satguru but at the end seeker triumphed.🙏🏻
Javed Akhtar acted like a 10 year old whose toy was snatched away forcefully. On many occasions he wasn’t able to understand the context or what’s being said about a context or both and went on with his ridiculous theatrics.
Are not both of them saying same thing, but it seems that Javed Sahb is in habit of proving himself correct and winning arguement, he is behaving like an agitated teenager. He is a spiritual person that is how he writes wonderful , he is not admitting.
Both r right at their place… sadguru is very right about yogic science .. he gives very clear idea about sptituality ..
On the other hand javed sir describs how people suffers by religion and fake sprituality..
Human race is facing so much pain..
Sprituality means feeling beyond physical.. but people use to surplus their ego… it is very dangerous when medicine is being used in support of disease..
It was very sad to see many comments attacking Javed Akhtar in that Youtube video. I can understand that he is not open to spirituality but attacking someone just because he was not open is totally anti-spiritual. So, I wrote a review of the entire debate here: you can read a detailed review about this debate here: https://nellaishanmugam.wordpress.com/2017/10/23/my-views-on-the-debate-between-sadhguru-jaggi-vasudev-and-javed-akhtar-faith-reason-and-inner-engineering/ ..
